Why We Designed the Ari Sand Visor Hat for Summer

Why We Designed the Ari Sand Visor Hat for Summer

Our first visor hat was born from a simple need: easy shade for long, hot days without the weight of a full hat. We wanted something you could throw in your bag, wear from the beach to the bar, and forget you had on until you realised you weren’t squinting into the sun.

The result is the Ari Sand visor hat – a raffia straw visor that feels light, looks considered and fits straight into a warm-weather wardrobe.

Inspiration for Ari Sand straw visor hat

Why we needed a lighter summer option

Full-brim hats are great for all-day adventures, but there are times when you want less coverage and more airflow. Think:

  • Walking to the markets on a humid morning
  • Reading by the pool with your hair in a bun
  • Grabbing a coffee after a swim, still in your swimmers
  • Packing light for a weekend away

A visor cap solves all of this. It keeps your face shaded like a sun visor hat, leaves the top of your head open to breathe, and works with messy buns, braids and curls. We designed Ari Sand for women who want sun protection that doesn’t feel fussy or overdone.

The design: materials, fit and features

We started with feel. The visor needed to be soft on the skin, flexible enough to pack, and sturdy enough to hold its shape.

Raffia straw body

The wide brim visor is woven from natural raffia straw for a relaxed, Euro-summer look. It’s light, breathable and has a subtle texture that works with linen, cotton and swimwear.

Comfortable inner band

Inside, a soft band sits against your forehead to help absorb sweat and keep the visor hat comfortable for all-day wear.

Open-top design

The open crown keeps your head cool and makes it easy to wear with high ponytails or top knots. It gives the feel of a running visor with a more refined, beach-ready finish.

Adjustable back

The back closure is designed to be simple and secure, so you can tweak the fit and share it between friends if needed.

Golden tones of Italy compliment Ari Sand visor hat perfectly

The colour sits in a soft, natural sand tone that pairs easily with neutrals, denim and swimwear. It’s a practical alternative to a classic straw hat when you want something lighter but still polished.

For days when you need more coverage or a different shape, you can mix Ari Sand with pieces from our straw hats and best sellers.

How to wear the Ari Sand visor hat

We designed this straw visor to move with you through the day, not just sit in your beach bag.

1. Beach and pool days

Ari Sand works as a beach visor when you want shade without flattening your hair. Wear it with:

  • A one-piece or bikini and an oversized shirt
  • A linen dress and sandals for walking to and from the water
  • A swimsuit and sarong for poolside reading

The curved brim helps shield your face and eyes from glare, much like a classic sun visor hat, while the open top keeps you cool.

2. Market mornings and city walks

On warmer days in town, swap your usual cap for this straw visor hat. It gives the same practicality as a visor cap with a softer, more elevated look.

Try it with:

  • High-waisted shorts and a tank
  • A simple cotton dress and slides
  • Wide-leg pants and a relaxed shirt

If you prefer more structured styles, you can explore our womens caps and caps collections alongside Ari Sand.

3. Travel and weekends away

The visor is light and easy to pack, making it a simple addition to your carry-on or weekender. It works across:

  • Coastal getaways
  • Long lunches outdoors
  • Road trips where you’re in and out of the car

Why a visor hat belongs in your wardrobe

A visor often becomes the piece you reach for more than you expect. It sits somewhere between a full-brim straw hat and a sporty running visor:

  • Lighter and cooler than a traditional hat
  • More polished than a standard black visor or athletic style
  • Easy to throw on for quick errands or long days outside

For women who already love visor hats for women, Ari Sand offers a natural, understated option that fits into a considered wardrobe.
