Are Will & Bear hats sun-safe?

All of our hats are tested by Australian Government agency, ARPSANA, with the majority rated UPF50+ (excellent) which is the highest sun protective rating available anywhere in the world.

For adults, the Cancer Council requires a 6cm brim on bucket hats and 7.5cm brim for all other hats, and 6cm on all hats for children. These measurements are considered to offer generous shade over the face and neck. You can browse our summer hats with sun protection here

What do the UPF ratings mean?
Here’s a breakdown of the UPF ratings and the protection they indicate*:
  • A rating of 50+ UPF means the fabric is protecting you from 98% of UV rays.
  • A rating of 30 UPF means the fabric is protecting you from 97% of UV rays.
  • A rating of 15 UPF means the fabric is protecting you from nearly 93% of UV rays.
