DIY Bush Wedding: How We Planned a 3-Day Camp Celebration in Jervis Bay

DIY Bush Wedding: How We Planned a 3-Day Camp Celebration in Jervis Bay

When we dreamed about getting hitched, we knew it wouldn’t be a traditional wedding. We wanted it to be us – laidback, outdoors, surrounded by the people we love. So, we planned a 3-day camp wedding in the bush at one of our favourite spots: The Woods Farm, Jervis Bay.

This was more than just a wedding. As travellers, we’ve collected friends and family from all over the world, and this was the first time we had everyone together in one place. It was wild, beautiful, and truly special – and of course, it wouldn’t be a Will & Bear wedding without a cowboy hat (or two).

And if you’re here for wedding hat inspiration, we’re excited to share that our new Will & Bear Wedding Hat Collection is finally here – perfect for brides, grooms, and anyone chasing that boho-country wedding vibe.

What We Wore: Wedding Hats with a Western Twist

For us, hats were always going to be part of the day. Our wedding hat collection is designed for brides, grooms, and wedding guests who want something timeless, stylish, and personal.

Alex (Bear) wore our soon-to-be-released Buck Brown Cowboy Hat – perfectly paired with a brown suit to match his Land Rover and a handmade bolo tie.

Lauren (Will) wore the Buck Cream Cowboy Hat, styled with a Grace Loves Lace gown and boots that could take her from the ceremony to the dance floor.

Our bridesmaids wore Spell dresses, and the flower kids were decked out in Blundstone boots, making it a true mix of rustic, country and boho styling.

DIY Details: Making It Our Own

A DIY bush wedding means rolling up your sleeves and making it yours. From the flowers to the cocktails, here’s how we pulled it together:

Anyone who knows Will knows she loves her garden. With a little help from her best friends, we did all the wedding flowers ourselves – a labour of love that felt so personal.

Our dear friend Laura (you may know her from our Will & Bear customer service team!) married us. In classic Loz & Alex style, we added a twist: a mystery shot – one with water, one with tequila – whoever got tequila had to go first with their vows.

DIY Details: The Set up

Hyre Events set up not only our outdoor cocktail area but also transformed our ceremony space — bringing to life the exact vision from Will’s Pinterest board. It felt like stepping into a dream we’d been pinning for months.

DIY Details: The Vintage Kombi

Our friends from Hire a Kombi brought “Gracie,” a vintage Kombi that featured in the first-ever Will & Bear photoshoot – a little nod to where it all began.

DIY Details: The Food

Our dear friends at Terra Firma Dining cooked an incredible meal over the fire – part feast, part performance.

DIY Details: The "Not so First Dance"

We ditched the traditional first dance and had our friends from Boot Scooting teach everyone a group line dance. It was the perfect way to kick off the party.

Why The Bush Wedding?

There’s something magical about saying “I do” under big open skies. Bush weddings are more than just beautiful – they’re grounding, immersive, and give your guests a chance to slow down and connect.

We spent three days at The Woods Farm, with our people camping, sharing meals, and dancing under the stars. If you’re considering a bush or camp wedding in Australia, Jervis Bay should be at the top of your list.
