Exploring Arcosanti with Lucette Romy — @lucetteromy

Exploring Arcosanti with Lucette Romy — @lucetteromy

Lucette Romy is one of our favourite ladies to watch glide through life with her incredible vision for style and her connection to the Earth, not only through travel and photography but the way in which she spends her days creating ceramics and adventuring to places to immerse herself in the unknown.

Lucette took our hats on her adventure to Arcosanti, Arizona and captured her surroundings in the most stunning locations.

Beautiful architecture that not only celebrates nature but is in harmony with it. Arcology is the integration of architecture and ecology to create a more sustainable and ever-evolving community living system that symbiotically exists alongside and within nature. Arcosanti is an experimental town in the high desert of Arizona, just 70 miles north of Phoenix. It is a project of The Crosanti Foundation that lives and breathes the principles of arcology while aiming to create equitable communities. Its aim is to counter mass consumerism, urban sprawl, unchecked consumption of natural resources, and social isolation. Lucette was fortunate enough to spend some time in this experimental and future-forward community and shares with us her experience.

It goes without saying that Will & Bear hats were made to take on any landscape, but without a doubt, I’ve never felt more at home in these hats, than amongst the desert brush and awe-inspiring architecture of Paolo Soleri. A community I have longed to visit for years, Arcosanti was nothing short of a dream experience to inspire and soothe the soul. Set in the high desert of Arizona, it is a true example of sustainable architecture, blending the natural environment with urban design.

I knew if there was any way for me to hit the road for the weekend, venturing out under the beating sun, dirt and dust under foot, that it would have to be with Will & Bear atop my head. I couldn’t think of a better pair either, both Will & Bear and Arcosanti are focused on purposeful, unique designs that are environmentally conscious, teaching others how we can live better, be better and do better.

As a ceramicist and multidisciplinary artist, it was such a beautiful coming together to finally visit the ceramic apse and bronze casting forge at Arcosanti where they make their famous bells. To walk the grounds of this architectural sanctuary that has housed up to 100 people at a time since the 70s, there was certainly no shortage of inspiration. Yet it also lent an incredible calmness, a wild and soulful kind of peace. The kind that allows you to finally take a deep inhale and ground back into the Earth.
